July 9, 2009 | Game News, Gaming, Uncategorized | 7 Comments

n9254840698_2045Incredible Connection and Mind Sports South Africa have just begun a sponsorship deal that will pioneer how competitive gaming grows in the coming years. Incredible Connection is the leading computer and technology retail chain in Africa has come on board as the lead sponsor for MSSA, the sole body as recognised by the government and SASCOC as the custodian of computer games as recognised as a sport. It also looks after other games like figure games, draughts, go, morabaraba, diplomacy, and cell phone games.

As the headline sponsor we will be looking at growing competitive gaming at school, university, provincial and national level. It is through sponsorships like this that gaming will be able to achieve new heights both locally, and internationally.

After what can only be described as a roller coaster ride, Incredible Connection and MSSA finally concluded the deal on the 7th July. The contract was signed at Olympic House in Johannesburg the home of SASCOC. With whom MSSA is affiliated.

From left to right, Patience Shikwambana, Colin Webster, Trevor Henry, David Vannucci and acting CEO of SASCOC Vinesh Maharaj, where all present at the signing. With all parties present and excited about the future it is difficult to see anything but growth moving forward.

But that is the challenge isn’t it, moving forward. As these are new waters for Incredible Connection we are making sure that we do things right, and doing them the right way from the start. As such don’t expect massive out of this world events right now, give us a few months to get our feet planted! As with anything Incredible, it takes some time to become the biggest and best.

We will be getting involved with all of the events that MSSA are hosting and we will be keeping you updated as and when things happen. The National LAN championships are set for early August and will be hosted by Northcliff High School. This event is looking to be a great starting point for all parties involved.

So what does this actually mean to you? The gamer? Well quite simply, we are hoping to become the portal that pushes more gamers into the gaming scene. Getting more players, more teams and more people actually playing and competing online. Making use of all Incredible Connection stores, we want to start funnelling people that buy games to the respective online gaming portals. We want to show the 500 000 ADSL consumers in South Africa that there is this whole other world that they can be involved in. We are hoping to enlarge the existing ADSL user base as well as getting more of the ADSL enabled, actually playing online and playing against you the gamer!

Incredible Connection is also connected to the market, we are actively improving our stock portfolio and soon enough, we will cater to every sector of the market. The fact that the company hired a gamer shows commitment to that end goal.  In addition we also know that there are several online and offline leagues that are hugely successful currently. The likes of 600 man LAN’s in Cape Town and 300 man LAN Parties in Jhb and Durban. As well as the thousands of social and competitive gamers currently playing on the SGS and iGame portals. As you may be aware, Incredible Connection has also sponsored prizes for the upcoming BOTCv3 for Call of Duty 4. In addition to this deal Incredible Connection is stepping up by looking at getting involved in the DoGaming leagues by not only making them larger and more exciting but by hosting brand new leagues both online and offline as well.

By hiring a gamer who is not only active and involved in the market, Incredible Connection stays abreast of the changes the big games etc. Through these partnerships, Incredible Connection will lead the way in development and growth of Electronic Gaming, you wouldn’t expect any less from the leading computer and technology retailer in Africa.

    Hey Trevor

I am just curious as to how you guys are going to increase our gaming community when we are having major problems with not only game pricing but also the whole issue regarding Xbox Live and it no longer being available in SA?

    Thanks

Bad news, tying up with MMSA, the most hated origination in SA gaming. The majority of clans and players are boycotting them, what made you think you are backing a winning solution?

No decent clan wants to be associated with MMSA, I hope for your sake they don’t feel so strong about IC too.

What a waste of resources. If Incredible Connection was really serious about promoting gaming they would have taken the time to realise that SA gamers hate MSSA (for many justified reasons). Why not support AGASA? MSSA are a bunch of board gamers who know nothing about PC/console games.

What should have been cause for all SA gamers to celebrate is simply a joke.

Good luck Trev, I hope you can make it work.

  5. Personally, I think it is good news, because if anyone can make this work it is you Trev! Hopefully you can get MSSA on (or even close to) the right track. The rest of BFB support you on this boss :)

Chaos, I agree with you on AGASA, but I am sure that Trevor knows about that. The is no way that IC (with an enlightened and aware person like Trevor on board) would sponsor leagues like BOTC and MSSA, LANs like OC (small, but still :P ) and MPLD and not consider AGASA.

I am sure they have something up their sleeves :D

  6. Thank you for your comments. I have replied extensively on the DoGaming article that was published on the 9th July regarding this deal.

And like I have said there as well, Incredible Connection understands the existing problems and will do everything in it’s power to ensure that the same issues do not arise again.

In addition to this, we are exploring other gaming avenues as well and just ask for some patience and trust. The long term plans are being looked at and once we have finalized some paperwork we will be announcing more exciting initiatives.

Not a huge supporter of MSSA myself, but this is a really important step towards getting gaming going places in SA :D
