Unless you’ve been stuck in the time vacuum that is your local casino for the past few months you’ve probably heard about Microsoft’s latest operating system offering, Windows 7. Responses vary from person to person, some comments are similar to that of a person coming out of a bad relationship not willing to give Microsoft a second chance (I’m referring to the disaster that was Windows Vista of course) while others simply aren’t interested. For a while I fell into the latter category, until I fully realised the impact this operating system could have on my life.

There is quite literally something in Windows 7 for everyone, the benefits range from Accessibility improvements to Internet browsing and improved media capabilities.

Microsoft has added an “Action centre” which basically consolidates any alerts or maintenance requests into a single interface! The overall feel of the operating system is far more natural and intuitive. The new graphic user interface looks far more attractive than previous offerings without you having to pay the price of slower performance for something prettier looking and this is where this operating system truly shines in the eyes of the everyday PC user, you aren’t expected to have a doctorate in IT to use and benefit from Windows 7’s features and benefits, these simply occur as and when you venture deeper into the system which as I mentioned earlier feels extremely natural.

When I asked a few colleagues and business associates what they value most in a personal computer most of them indicated that speed was most important to them, if load times and even shutting down times are an issue for you then Windows 7 is the Operating system you should waste no time in investing in, with faster load times and a generally better interface not only will you be doing what you need to do on your PC faster and easier but you’ll enjoy it more too.

Something I found amazing was that the OS actually boasts increased laptop battery times, I was quite skeptical about this myself but after some research I found this statement to be true! Users actually found that they experienced in the region of 20 to 30 minutes of extra battery time when using their laptops.

I’ve never been a big Operating System guy but I must say that Microsoft’s Windows 7 is nothing short of brilliant; it looks good, feels good and performs better than ever before. This is an investment well worth making.
