Trade-in your old goods for new upgrades during February

February 4, 2009 | IC News | 37 Comments

From the 5th of February, Incredible Connection is running a Trade-In and Upgrade promotion. Its pretty simple, bring in your old pc’s, CRT monitors, film cameras, dot matrix printers, map books, ball mice or laptops and get discount when upgrading. All your old technology is either refurbished to be sent to schools and charities that desperately need it or if the goods are unusable, they are destroyed in an environmentally safe way.

Trade-in and Upgrade

For those of you looking to switch to Apple – bring in your old PC or laptop and upgrade to either an iMac or Macbook.

Great discounts on Apple products when you bring in your old PC or laptops

GPS

Are you still using an old school map book to find your way around? Seriously, bring it in and get R800 off a GPS device. The Garmin Nuvi 215W will cost you R3299.95 when you bring in that map book or any old GPS device.

LCD Monitors

What monitor are you currently using at home? One of those big and fat old school CRT monitors that the colours are starting to fade in the corners and takes 2 minutes to warm up? Bring that thing in and get a crystal clear LCD monitor! Get between R200 and R1000 off depending on which size LCD monitor you wish to upgrade to.

Digital Cameras

This year, Incredible Connection have expanded the February Trade-in to include digital cameras – so if you have any of those film cameras lying around in your draw collecting dust or if you were an early adopter and have one of those old 1 or 2 megapixel digital cameras, bring them in! Just don’t try and bring in a disposable camera – that’s just being cheeky. ;)

What old tech do you have lying around your house? Are you considering bringing it in to Incredible Connection for an upgrade?

what would be awesome, is a little application where you can see exactly what discount you’ll get for what you have…

IE, i say i have a 17″ wide Gateway Laptop etc etc and I want a Macbook – the app should show me what kind of discount I’ll get…

would save me the trip to IC with my gear to find out what I’ll get for it.

  5. Jason Jason says:

Hey Mark – the trade-in isn’t like Cash Converters where your product has a certain value. All products, no matter how old, new or not working, get the same discount.

So bring in any – and I mean ANY old PC or laptop and get R1500 off the 13″ white Macbook. :-)

  6. MarkB says:

Hectic… And can I bring in multiple laptops & PC’s etc against a Macbook?

  7. Jason Jason says:

@MarkB – unfortunately not. 1 item per trade-in. It wouldn’t make business sense – people would bring in 7 ancient 386 PC’s and get a brand new Macbook!

The items traded-in are refurbished to give to schools or disposed of safely if they cannot be used. So its really just a great way to for people to get rid of their junk collecting dust!

  8. MarkB says:

    damn.. thought I’d spotted a loophole :P

    still a good deal…

  9. Stii says:

This really is truly awesome deal! If I had spare cash atm I’d trade in my old Mac Mini for a spiffy iMac, sadly the timing sucks. It is a great deal.

  10. Roger Saner says:

That’s pretty cool! Can’t find any Mac laptops listed on the main Incredible site, though…? I want to compare prices to ZA Store. Does Incredible import their Macs directly, or do they go through Core?

  11. Stii says:

Roger, I checked already and the prices in the brochure are the same as on ZA Store. This is simply a great deal!

  12. Jason Jason says:

@Roger – the main store is undergoing a big makeover, thus the reason no Apple products are listed. :( Click that image for a bigger version, or pop into a store and pick up one of the Feb Trade-in brochures.

  13. Theo says:

Jason – the iMacs are all listed as R13,500 (they’re correct on the pic) – is that legally binding advertising? Then I’d like a 24″ 2.8Ghz iMac please! ;-) But seriously, cool special with a social responsibility twist.

  14. Jason Jason says:

@Theo – thanks for spotting that! There is a small disclaimer on the blog, so I guess I’m covered against typos. :)

  15. alan says:

    Hi.

Are there any trade-ins on offer against Macbook Pros? Kinda in the market for one of them at the moment…

  16. Jason Jason says:

    @alan – I’ll find out for you.

  17. alan says:

    thanks jason.

  18. Jason Jason says:

Hey Alan, unfortunately its just the iMacs and Macbooks that are included in the February Trade-in. :(

  19. WOppER says:

This is a crock. The prices are heavily inflated anyway, so you’re just getting it at the corrected price.

  20. alan says:

    WOppER

To be honest, I think mac prices are pretty accurate. Take the dollar price, times it with 10 (the exchange rate), add 14% VAT and you’ll arrive at the retail price.

Sure, the prices are expensive but they are not ‘inflated’. A year or two ago prices were in fact inflated: when it used to be a lot cheaper bringing them in through a friend or a trip overseas. Even then you still had to dodge 20% at custom, and you ended up with a warranty that was quite difficult to service from here.

  21. Jason Jason says:

Hi WOppER, these prices are not “heavily inflated” as you say. They are pretty much spot on with the prices from Apple.com. The 13″ white Macbook retails for $999. To that you either have to add VAT or import duties which is around 14 – 20%. The total then comes to around R11000 – R11800. Still “heavily inflated”? :)

  22. Roger Saner says:

@alan: Jason is right – ZA Store is selling the MacBook for R12,999 which is R1500 more than Incredible. That’s…incredible!

@Jason: does Incredible import their Macs directly or do they deal with Core IMC?

  23. alan says:

uh yeah, thanks for that roger.

  24. Jason Jason says:

@Roger Saner – I will follow up for you and find out!

  25. Jason Jason says:

    For all those interested:

Incredible Connection buy their Apple products from Core.

  26. WOppER says:

Alan, what are talking about. The Dollar price already includes US tax! Core doesn’t pay the same costs for importing 500 Macs, does it??

And in case you didn’t know, all Mackbooks are under warrantee wherever you are. There are no restrictions on grey imports of Macbooks either.

  27. WOppER says:

And the deal IC offers is identical to a deal Core ran some months ago.

  28. alan says:

WOppER – not sure what the ‘US tax’ is you are referring to, but the last time I bought a Macbook I was in the States as a matter of fact – and they still added state tax to it. what i’m saying is that at least now it’s comparable to a price on that side. a couple of years ago it wasn’t: and that was applicable to all consumer electronics, not just Apple products – or Macbooks in your case.

  29. WOppER says:

Alan, when you leave the states with your grey import Macbook you claim the tax off, right.

Just like Core does when they import a batch of 500. You following so far?

So why does your calculation add tax again?? You’re not making sense.

  30. [...] Connection have been playing in the Apple space for a while now, and they have a great deal: new Macbooks are R1500 cheaper than those being sold anywhere else in South [...]

  31. Angie says:

Will incredible connection be having this special with the trade-ins again in the future, I really want the 2.4 ghz macbook but that’s gonna take a bit of saving :(

  32. Jason Jason says:

Hi Angie, IC have run these trade-in specials every year so far, so I don’t see why it won’t run again next year.

That being said, there are tons of other promotions during the year and I’m sure there would be specials on Macbooks sooner than you know it.

  33. Angie says:

Thanks so much for the response… I was worried that maybe incredible connection was going to stop selling macbooks, :S But this is good news ;)

  34. Chantal says:

So is this only during February…or is it FROM february ???

  35. Jason Jason says:

Hi Chantal, this promotion ran in Feb 09, but I’m almost sure there will be another one come Feb 2010. So watch out for that one!

  36. Mbuyi says:

Hey Jason, I am using a acer laptop wich I got in 2002 so I just need to upgrade when does the trade in close? Just heard about this from a friend hope its not late! :-(

  37. Jason Jason says:

Hi Mbuyi, the trade-in is finished unfortunately, however check the stores – there are still a couple of specials around laptops.
