Affordable, lightweight and easy to use … what more could you want?

With so many tablets out there choosing the right one for you can be a daunting task. You need to consider what your needs are and what you’ll be using the device for. If you’re looking for a simple tablet that is easy to use and small you might want to try the Huawei S7 Slim Tablet. I’ve had a chance to play with the Huawei S7 and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the lower price bracket device.

Once removed from the box you can feel that the S7 slim is very lightweight, and it fits nicely in to your hands. At 7-inches and 400g it’s the perfect size and weight for transporting around – it can easily be carted around in your handbag or briefcase. This little tablet is a lot smaller and more portable than the iPad so it’s a great alternative if the iPad’s size doesn’t appeal to you. In the box you’ll find a charger, battery, multi-use cable, and a pair of headphones.

Running on Android 2.2 the device offers a great selection of Apps, most of them free, on the Android market. In terms of other specs on-board you’ll find a 1GHz Snapdragon Processor (single core), 512MB RAM, 8GB internal storage, Micro SD Card slot, Mini USB, Mini HDMI, 3.5mm jack, 3.2-megapixel rear camera, and VGA front camera, wifi, bluetooth, and GPS. The S7 gives you all the things you’d expect from a tablet set at higher price points but for a much lower price.

On the bottom edge is a docking port and a micro SD card slot. The card slot will take up to 32GB cards, that’s 40 GB of storage, so you’ll be able to store info to your heart’s content. On one side you’ll find the mini USB and HDMI ports, as well as a speaker. The other side has the 3.5 mm jack, another speaker, and the volume rocker. On the top edge you’ll find a charging port and the power switch. The camera is just off-center on the back, and the backing slides off pretty easily to reveal a user-replaceable battery.

The 7-inch capacitive touchscreen has good response time and the device is easy to use. The camera takes relatively good photos. While it is by no means a suitable replacement for your digital camera it works well for taking quick snaps to share on Twitter or Facebook.

With its low price point, small size, and ease of use the Huawei Ideos S7 Slim Tablet proves to be a perfect travel companion and works well for browsing on the couch at home or reading in bed. I would recommend the device for those who want a simple no-fuss tablet.
