XBox Deal of the Week: Penny Arcade Episode 1
April 6, 2009 | Game News, Gaming | 0 Comments
During January 2009, Microsoft introduced a “Deal of the Week” feature on their XBox Live Marketplace, which gave exclusive discounts to XBox Live Gold members only for downloadable content, addons and full games. Titles on sale so far included the fantastic Braid, the XBox Original Fable, Mission Mode for Ninja Gaiden 2 and last week’s discount to get Alien Hominid HD for a mere 400 MSPoints ($5 or about R50), and much more.
This week brings some great news that the first Penny Arcade game, titled Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, will be discounted by a massive 50% to a mere 800 Microsoft Points, making the game only R100 or so.
For those not familiar with Penny Arcade, the fantastic online comic strip, it is the creation of Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, and is currently one of the most popular online comics. The strip features Holins and Krahulik’s comic alter egos, Tycho Brahe and John Gabriel (“Gabe”) respectively. The content of the strip often comes from current events happening around the globe, usually gaming related. Latest games being released, conferences, etc.
In 2008 their first game, the above-mentioned Episode 1, was released onto XBox Live Arcade, Sony’s PSN, Windows, Linux and Mac OSX, with typical mixed reactions. One negative back-lash was the fact that the game debuted at 1600 Microsoft Points, quite a high price for an XBox Live Arcade game. Now that the game is available for a limited time only at 50% discount, it is the best time to buy and play. The game features Tycho and Gabe in a 3D action-adventure set in a 1920′s suburban neighbourhood. Be warned though, the game carries an 18+ age rating, comic violence and language being the big reasons.
If you haven’t played this game yet, then now is the time to do yourself at least the small favour of downloading and playing the free trial version this week. Don’t forget, the 50% discount is for this week only, so don’t delay. And if you don’t have an XBox 360, but want to play the game on your PC or Mac, head over to the PlayGreenHouse website and buy the game online there.
