Sam & Max, Rocket Riot, Magic: the Gathering coming to XBLA
June 17, 2009 | Game News, Gaming | 0 CommentsThree exciting new games are coming to Xbox Live Arcade today, once the scheduled Xbox Live maintenance is done: Rocket Riot, from previously-struggling publisher THQ, developed by CodeGlue. Sam & Max, the very popular adventure game from Telltale Games, and Magic: the Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers from developer Stainless Games.
Rocket Riot is an 8-bit graphics style multiplayer (and singleplayer) shoot’emup game where players are armed with bazookas and a multitude of other weapons and power ups and kill everything that moves through 80 levels. Up to 4 players in local multiplayer, or up to 8 using online multiplayer, Rocket Riot will sell for 800 mspoints. Developer CodeGlue are responsible for other hits such as Toki Tori (Wii), Worms World Party, and many more.
Sam & Max, the whole season 1, renamed Sam & Max Saves the World, will feature updated hidef graphics, widescreen support, achievements and updated game controls for their outing to the XBLA shop. Sam & Max were very popular many years ago in their very first game, and with developer Telltale Games’ recent re-release in episodic format, many fans rejoiced. With the comical animal detective duo coming to the Xbox, they are bound to make even more fans happy. Sam & Max Saves the World, all 6 episodes of their first season, will sell for 1600 mspoints.
Lastly, Magic: the Gathering – Duals of the Planeswalkers, that started out as a collectible trading card game many years ago, and has since mutated into single player PC and PlayStation games, and an online multiplayer PC version, has now finally made it onto a games console, with online and offline play, additional cards, unlockable content and much more. Developers Stainless Games, previously developed games such as Happy Tree Friends and Centipede/Millipede, had a big task of getting the Magic the Gathering franchise done right. Early versions of the PC games were not very good, with complicated card rulings going wrong etc. and a card game like this needs to be done right for it to be a success. I, for one, will not mind paying the mere 800 mspoints to play this game. No details on if microtransactions will be involved in purchasing more cards etc. though.
