pokemon_goldNintendo confirmed yesterday previous rumours that the Gameboy Color Pokemon games, Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver, which were originally released in Japan in 1999, will be remade for the Nintendo DS handheld console.

Last Sunday, on Japan’s Pokemon Sunday TV program, hit was hinted that the two very popular Pokemon games would be remade. The new games will be called Pokemon Heart Gold and Pokemon Soul Silver, much like Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green were remakes of the Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green games.

The new DS versions come a full 10 years after the initial release, and will very likely include several new elements not found in the original games, but so far there are no specifics available.

Even though one might think that the Pokemon franchise has been milked for all it’s worth, every year there is a new set of younger generation that gets lured into the world of Pokemon, and once they’re hooked, they Gotta Catch’em All.

More information on the official Japanese Pokemon site, assuming you can read Japanese.
