Dragon Quest IX leads to increased DS sales

The past seven weeks were bumper weeks for Nintendo. Not only did Nintendo America report that the Nintendo DS outsold every home console *combined*, but Nintendo Japan reported that the release of the new, and highly anticipated Dragon Quest IX, resulted in a large increase of the popular console’s sales. Unbelievable I know.
Sarcasm aside though, it was to be expected that the release of Dragon Quest IX, in Japan, would highly increase sales of the Nintendo DSi. According to Media Create, a Japanese tracking and ranking company, the Nintendo DSi sold 118202 units last week, the week of the Dragon Quest IX release, which is an over 100% increase in unit sales from the previous week of only 46855 units. A red DSi was also released at the same time, boosting sales as well. Joystiq reports that the game sold over 2.3 million units in just two days.
The Dragon Quest series of games are very popular in Japan, with versions of the games, some remakes of earlier versions, making it to english-speaking territories for the PlayStation 2, the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS.
So far no release date for the PAL or US releases of Dragon Quest IX has been released, nor any solid confirmation if the game will even make it to the english-speaking territories, I sincerely hope they do release it though, as Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu honoured the newly released games with a 40/40 rating, the 10th game ever to receive such high honours in the magazine’s 22 year existence.
