The highly successful and beautifully crafted time-shifting platformer game Braid by Johnathan Blow, which first appeared on XBox Live Arcade last year, and more recently for the PC via the Steam digital content distribution network and via PlayGreenhouse.com, has a level editor built right into the game. So far it’s been confirmed that only the PC version has the editor included.
Jonathan Blow, the developer behind the game, confirmed on the Steam Forums that the level editor does exist, and that it will be made more readilly accessable after a patch for the game is released in the near future.
Blow says on the Steam Forums:
Yeah, after I get a new version out in a few days that fixes the problems some people are having, and when more people have played/finished the game, I am going to post some documentation for the editor. The way it works is you can make levels with the editor (up to a full game, potentially) and run that with -universe later… also a tool will be released that lets you take Photoshop files and import them into the game, if you want to put new graphics in your levels.
Blow explains more about how to use the editor on the game’s blog.
For more information about the game, or to find links on where to purchase the game for the PC, check the game’s main website. The game costs a mere $15 (About R150), and is well worth every cent, even more so now with a level editor. Games like these where the community to become super-creative and create their own content, and allow fellow gamers try out and collaborate even, have much bigger staying power than other games that merely have a start and an end, and perhaps a multiplayer option.
