Belinda Jonker more commonly known as FluffyCloud by gamers all around the country is not only clan leader for Ubersoldaten. She is the first lady of gaming when it comes to South African online gamers, not only as an accomplished player in her own right. Running one of the largest and oldest online clans as well as being chairperson for AGASA. Belinda “FluffyCloud” Jonker is the first to be interviewed by Incredible Connection and the Incredible Blog.

And they said Women Couldn’t game!

Could you introduce yourself, with a little bit of your gaming history?

Nickname: FluffyCloud from the song by the Orb called little Fluffy clouds :D   I started gaming at a young age on my mom’s PC, playing games like Black Caldron and Golden Axe. I then discovered the Playstation 1 and 2, but only played for the fun of it. In 2006 I swopped my controller for a mouse and keyboard.

  • Years Gaming: Competitive since 2004, prior mainly Playstation single player games, loved my fighting games and of course all time favourite Ratchet and Clank
  • Occupation: Project Manager
  • Favourite Game: Of all times – Playstaion Ratchet and Clank and Soul Calibur, Single Player – Command and Conquer / Multiplayer – Call of Duty 4
  • Mouse: Logitech G9
  • Sensitivity:800 on Mouse and 2.25 in game

When did you get into gaming and how did UBS come about?

UBS - rAge 2008

UBS - rAge 2008

In 2006 my brother introduced me to online gaming and Call of Duty 2, there after it has just been downhill, spending all my bonuses on PC’s upgrades :P UbS was established in 2005 by Heinrich Stallknecht aka “Nebula”, whom passed it on to Werner Wentzel aka “The Boss” and whom then decided that maybe a female running the clan is not such a bad idea and handed it over to me, start of 2007.

What games do you and your clan support and why?

Myself, well I will basically try every game at least once, but I will stick to my COD4 as it seems to be the one I struggle the least with … aim – shoot – miss – swear. UbS’s main focus was Call of Duty 2, it was obvious with the release of Call of Duty 4 that we would move and it seems that we prefer the Call of Duty series with 6 teams playing Call of Duty 4 and 1 team playing Call of Duty: World at War. We do however play various other games as a clan, but not competitively like DOTA, Battlefield 2 / 2142 / WoW etc. Our clan is not more about the interaction with the members and making friends, than competing.

What games would you like to see growing in SA gaming?

I cannot think of a specific game, but would like to see the consoles like Play station and Xbox grow a bit more on the competitive scene.

With the set of competitions coming up, BOTC, AGASA Leg3 and the looming rAge finals coming up. How will UBS fare?

Because UbS has so many teams and they all in various division, each team have their own obstacles and enemies.  AGASA Leg 3 and rAge:

Premier League:

With the latest development in COD4 UbS.Saints and UbS.Afrikorps will have a tough time ahead of them, with some strong players coming back to COD4 and forming teams for rAge, it is not going to be easy for the teams. Adding to the stress of competing against EG, Brazen, BFB, A*P there will be new teams joining the league teams like SG and the Borg.Cyborgs team whom is reforming for rAge.

1st Division:

UbS. Fallschirmjagers have dropped to 1st Division and UbS.Reichswehr managed to stay in the division due to some teams pulling out of the league. We will however be making some changes to both the teams for Leg 3 and rAge, which will hopefully improve their chances of beating =DAC=Crusaders, -vF-zX Team and dS]Apocalypse for the top spot of the 1st Division.

2nd Division:

One of our best improved teams UbS|Wehrmacht, whom is a brand new team (but kept the old name) consisting mainly of players whom are new to the Call of Duty 4 competitive scene. They had a rocky start of the AGASA Leg2, but managed to progress to the 2nd Division for Leg3. If they keep up the practice and commitment they will be a strong contender to move to the 1st Division. I would say that their biggest competitors for the top 2 spots will be nAz Fun, [ELEM]‘@ and >P< cHaoS

3rd Division:

We have a new team UbS.Enigma headed up by Jose ‘S7RID3R‘ Da Silva, whom I’m hoping will cause some chaos in the 3rd Division.

BOTC:

As for BOTC – We only have 2 teams entering UbS.Saints and UbS.Afrikorps (Hopefully one of them can pull of a win for UbS) As always I have high hopes for all the teams and are sure they will give their best.

You are also involved with a team of gorgeous girls, the Feisty Females! Could you tell us a little more about how they fit in with you and UBS etc?

Feisty Females - Africon 2008

Feisty Females - Africon 2008

Feisty Females was an Idea that I and Liezel “B!tch” Van Niekerk (Borg owner) came up with, we then approached the girls we knew and asked if they are willing to take on the men, in a girls only clan. In leg 1 of AGASA we were allowed to play for 2 teams, to test the waters and see if we can keep up with the men. Which made it allot easier as none of us had to leave our current teams.  With a miracle we made it into the AGASA Premier and we all agreed to rather leave our current teams, but not clans and give our full attention to Feisty Females. Feisty Females is considered as part of the UbS family as if they are another team within UbS. 4 of the Girls currently in Feisty Females are members of UbS and their husbands / boyfriends play for UbS.

How do you feel about competitive gaming in SA with regards to AGASA, MSSA and the economic climate?

I would say competitive gaming has come a long way in the past few years, with AGASA hitting a record of over 54 teams taking part in the AGASA DoGaming Call of Duty 4 Leg 2 online league. MSSA has in the past disregarded the input for the competitive gaming community and thus they alienated them, hopefully going forward they can rebuild the trust and gain the support they deserve. Economic climate…. Nee man, I’m a gamer not a banker, no idea what to comment.

What is your involvement with AGASA?

At the moment I’m Chairperson of the AGASA committee, who is responsible for overseeing all the games AGASA runs leagues for. I’m also the Game Manager for Call of Duty 4, trying to make sure the league runs smoothly with as minimal hick ups as possible.

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions. The future for AGASA and UBS looks bright with such a powerful woman at the helm. I would like to wish you, your teams and the lovely Feisty Females the best of luck in the coming months.

I am going to start doing a series of interviews on gamers and organisers throughout the gaming scene and I am borrowing a page from one of the top EU ranked news sites, and it is time for qu1k qu3stions!
